Battery Shutdown Experience

Batteries are not designed for high current draws at low state of charge

As the industry moves to greater market penetration and maturity of our systems, our clients are often faced with decisions on how to best operate their systems in the different seasons and with different loadshedding schedules. Yes the state of charge settings can be made to optimize energy savings performance, however if left unchecked systems might fail to perform

Lithium batteries like most batteries are not designed for high current draws at low state of charge (SOC). The batteries have internal protection that shuts down the system if this happens. That is why constant monitoring at different state of charge is so important. Setting the SOC too low may create this problem. The solution is to add further batteries if the budget allows, manage high current draw loads carefully and increasing the SOC to avoid system failure
